Want me. Love me. Be mine.
The MADDEN Museum of Art is pleased to present Intimacy & Seduction, an exhibition that will explore themes of love and lust, from the visceral to the cerebral. This show marks The Madden's second exhibition since the museum's grand opening on November 11, 2008, and will examine concepts that have ignited the human experience for centuries, inspired and perplexed artists across all genres. Art, like music and poetry, can incite an emotional response, often otherwise unexpressed.
Intimacy & Seduction features a noteworthy gathering of artists assembled both regionally and from abroad, contemporary working artists and traditional masters. Featured artists include Peter Anton, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Chin Chi, Vittorio Matteo Corcos, Kim Dickey, Mary Ehrin, Jill Greenberg, Peter Max, Todd Siler, Mark Sink, Daniel Sprick and Andy Warhol. Joining them in this exhibition will also be artists from The MADDEN's permanent collection, including Albert Bierstadt, Colin Cambell Cooper, Robert Rauschenberg, Filadelfo Simi and JMW Turner.
The MADDEN is hopeful that through the works of these particular artists, visitors will be affected on an emotive level. Some works are meant to be alluring and decadent, such as Mary Ehrin's Chambre d'Amour, a substantial installation of a bed of feathers hidden behind veils of dazzling crystal. Other works, such as Mark Sink's black & white photographs, may evoke wistful memories or fantasies. Some may even burn so heatedly with passion that they incite scandal, as Bouguereau's Return of Spring did when a viewer was so offended by the overt nudity and sexuality of the large female figure that he threw a chair through the canvas in outrage.
This exhibition will open to the public on February 16, 2009 and will run through June 30, 2009. The Madden Museum of Art will kick off this exhibition with a sneak peak during its Valentine's Day Dinner & Dessert extravaganza. Not only will guests be treated to a fabulous exhibit, exquisite food and hand-selected champagnes, but they'll have the opportunity to get in touch with their creative sides by painting a live model. Did your heart just skip a beat? Yes, you read that right. Live models will be on display and guests are encouraged to take a turn with the paintbrush. Whoever said Valentine's Day was manufactured by card companies hasn't been to one of our parties. Valentine's Day packages start at $45.00! For reservations please call 303.763.1970 or visit http://www.themaddenmuseum.org/
